Congressman Addison McDowell, who represents North Carolina’s sixth district in the U.S. House of Representatives, recently used his social media platform to address concerns ranging from public health threats to local industry achievements.
On July 31, 2025, McDowell posted about the dangers posed by illicit drugs originating from China. He stated, “Yet another deadly poison flowing from Communist China into our communities. Thousands of North Carolinians have died at the hands of their drugs — this new one is just the latest example. This isn’t a coincidence, it’s a threat and a real one.”
Later that day, McDowell highlighted local manufacturing efforts with a visit to Haas Factory Team in North Carolina. In his tweet dated July 31, 2025, he wrote: “Refueled @HaasFactoryTeam, from pit crew to production, the team here puts in the work. Proud to have them driving jobs and innovation right here in North Carolina.”
The following day on August 1, 2025, McDowell continued his focus on motorsports and community engagement by visiting NASCAR teams based in his district. He tweeted: “Great to join the crews this week, many NASCAR and motorsports teams call the sixth district home. Some of America’s top racers come from right here in our backyard — it was great to see how these organizations lift the community around us. Thanks for showing me around:”
North Carolina has been significantly affected by drug overdose deaths linked to fentanyl and other synthetic opioids entering through international supply chains. The state also has a long-standing connection with auto racing; many NASCAR teams are headquartered there due to its established infrastructure and skilled workforce.
