Congressman Addison McDowell has recently used his social media platform to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on U.S. service members. In a series of posts, McDowell criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and the Democratic Party for their handling of the situation.
On October 15, 2025, McDowell wrote, “This is America First leadership — standing with the men and women who serve our country. Our service members are heroes who deserve their pay, even as Chuck Schumer chooses to keep the government shut down.”
The following day, October 16, 2025, he continued his criticism by stating, “It was great to join @Breaking_Battle to discuss Schumer’s Shutdown. It’s simple – Democrats voted against paying our soldiers, and they’re lying to the American people. @HouseGOP voted to keep the lights on. We are not going to be held hostage for Chuck Schumer’s base.”
On October 17, 2025, McDowell posted a brief message: “Here are the facts!”
Government shutdowns in the United States occur when Congress fails to pass appropriations legislation funding federal government operations and agencies. During such periods, many federal employees—including military personnel—may experience delays in pay or furloughs until funding is restored.
Chuck Schumer serves as Senate Majority Leader and has been involved in recent negotiations over government funding bills. Disputes between parties regarding budget priorities often lead to legislative gridlock and temporary lapses in federal funding.
