Congressman Addison McDowell, Vice Chair of the Coast Guard subcommittee, recognized the 235th anniversary of the United States Coast Guard in a series of tweets on August 4, 2025. McDowell highlighted both the service’s longstanding role and his own legislative efforts supporting its mission.
In a tweet posted at 14:42 UTC, McDowell wrote, “For 235 years, the Coast Guard has patrolled our shores and defended our maritime borders. Today their role is more important than ever, working to keep our communities safe from deadly drug traffickers. Happy Birthday @USCG!”
Later that day at 19:15 UTC, he reiterated his support for the service: “Today marks 235 straight years of the United States Coast Guard patrolling our waters and keeping us safe. While they work for us, I am proud to be fighting for them. As Vice Chair of the Coast Guard subcommittee, I’ve made @USCG one of my top priorities.”
In a follow-up post at 19:15 UTC, McDowell noted his recent legislative activity: “Most recently, I proudly supported the Coast Guard Authorization Act to give our guardsmen the tools, resources, and support they need to meet today’s threats. Happy Birthday to all the men and women of the United States Coast Guard!”
The U.S. Coast Guard was established in 1790 and serves as both a military service branch and federal law enforcement agency responsible for maritime safety, security, and environmental stewardship.
