Congressman Addison McDowell has recently shared updates on legislative developments and policy positions through his social media account.
On July 16, 2025, McDowell announced the enactment of new federal legislation, stating, “The HALT Fentanyl Act has been officially signed by President Trump and is now the law of the land.” The HALT Fentanyl Act aims to address the ongoing opioid crisis by permanently scheduling fentanyl-related substances as controlled substances under federal law.
Later that day, McDowell discussed infrastructure advancements with a member of the administration. He wrote on July 16, 2025: “Great to talk with @SecDuffy today about historic progress the Trump administration has made on infrastructure.”
In a subsequent post dated July 17, 2025, McDowell expressed opposition to central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), referencing concerns over financial privacy. He stated: “DC technocrats want nothing more than to control your finances through their Central Bank Digital Currency. @HouseGOP won’t stand for it. I am proud to support the Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act.” The Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act is designed to prevent the Federal Reserve from issuing a digital currency directly to individuals or using such technology for surveillance purposes.
President Donald Trump’s administration has prioritized efforts related to both combating fentanyl trafficking and investing in national infrastructure projects during its tenure. Legislation like the HALT Fentanyl Act reflects ongoing bipartisan concern about synthetic opioids’ impact in recent years. Meanwhile, debates over CBDCs have intensified amid global trends toward digital payment systems and growing scrutiny regarding government oversight of personal financial data.
