The Carolina University Men’s Basketball team is preparing to participate in the Irma Stepp Memorial Classic at Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Passes, Kentucky. The Bruins, coached by Jacob Heck, will play against Great Lakes Christian College on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
The annual tournament honors Miss Irma Stepp, who became part of the Alice Lloyd College community in 1999 after her husband’s death. She served as a volunteer in the college bookstore and was known for mentoring students, faculty, and staff over her 23 years at the college. The event is held each year to recognize her contributions and legacy within the campus community.
Carolina University enters the tournament with a 1–2 record after two close losses early in the season. Head Coach Heck noted that his team has demonstrated balanced scoring and a defensive focus built on energy and discipline. They are looking to improve their performance against Great Lakes Christian College.
Great Lakes Christian currently holds a 3–2 record and comes into Friday’s game following two consecutive wins. The team has shown strong offensive capabilities, which will challenge Carolina’s defense.
Coach Heck commented on the significance of participating in this event: “The Irma Stepp Classic is a special event, and we’re honored to be part of it,” Heck said. “Our group has competed hard in every game, and now it’s about cleaning up the details, trusting one another, and getting back to playing our brand of basketball.”
Carolina University will also play The Crown College on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., marking their second game of the classic.
The Irma Stepp Memorial Classic serves both as an athletic competition and as a tribute to Miss Irma Stepp’s impact on Alice Lloyd College.
