Senator Ted Budd, representing North Carolina, shared a series of posts on social media highlighting his concerns about federal farm labor regulations and his recent visits with local agricultural producers and conservation sites.
On August 14, 2025, Senator Budd criticized current farm labor policies, stating: “Biden’s farm labor rules are crushing family farms. They’ve increased costs and complicated the hiring process for the workers our farms depend on. The Trump Admin has a chance to roll them back, restore stability, and protect the backbone of rural America.” He expressed support for rolling back these regulations in favor of what he described as more stable conditions for rural communities.
Later that day, Budd visited Sandy Land Peanut Co. in Hertford County. He posted: “Great to visit Sandy Land Peanut Co. in Hertford Co. & meet farmers Horace Beasley & Greg Dyer. Innovative farms like theirs keep our ag sector strong.
I’m fighting for fair policies & to cut red tape, so our farmers can continue to feed America & create jobs. #100CountyTour” This message highlighted his ongoing efforts to reduce regulatory burdens on farmers as part of his “100 County Tour.”
On August 15, 2025, Budd drew attention to environmental conservation in northeastern North Carolina by visiting the Great Dismal Swamp. He wrote: “Northeastern NC is home to the Great Dismal Swamp, one of the most important wildlife habitats in the region. I enjoyed my visit to learn about how these public lands bring together everyone from scientific researchers to tourists to enjoy the swamp’s rich wildlife & plant life.”
Senator Budd’s focus on agricultural policy comes amid broader debates over U.S. Department of Labor rules affecting farm worker wages and employment practices—a topic that has drawn criticism from some farming groups who argue that recent changes have increased costs and administrative complexity for small- and medium-sized farms.
The senator’s remarks reflect ongoing concerns among North Carolina’s agricultural community regarding regulatory challenges and their impact on rural economies.
