Senator Ted Budd, a U.S. Senator from North Carolina, posted a series of statements on October 20, 2025, regarding recent actions by Hamas and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
In one post, Senator Budd alleged that Hamas has targeted Palestinian civilians. He wrote, “Hamas is also brutally executing Palestinian civilians because they suspect that they collaborated with Israel, or because they are afraid that they and their families might oppose Hamasin the future.” (October 20, 2025).
In another statement made on the same day, Senator Budd addressed a recent ceasefire. He stated, “Just days after the ceasefire began, Hamas operatives assassinated two IDF soldiers—an unmistakable breach of the deal and proof that Hamas did not negotiate in good faith.” (October 20, 2025).
He further commented on the broader implications for peace in the region and called for U.S. action. Senator Budd posted, “Hamas fears a future where their power & terror come to an end. That time is coming. In our undertaking to cement peace in the Middle East, the U.S. must use every ounce of leverage to hold Hamas accountable, ensure the return of all hostages including Americans, & defend” (October 20, 2025).
Senator Budd’s remarks come amid ongoing tensions between Israel and Hamas. Ceasefires between Israel and Hamas have historically been fragile and frequently broken by renewed violence from both sides. The United States has played a longstanding role as an ally of Israel and as a mediator in Middle Eastern peace efforts.
