Winston-Salem was ranked a great place to retire in the Forbes "Top 25 Places to Retire in 2020."
More than 750 cities and towns across America with a population of more than 10,000 were considered, an Aug. 28 release from Forsyth County said. The cost of living, well-living and retirement opportunities were the base of the considerations.
Forbes highlighted Winston-Salem as having an artsy environment.
In stating why it selected the community, Forbes cited the median home that is nearly 50% below the national level and good air and climate. However, for cons, it said Winston-Salem's crime rate exceeds the national average.
"The positive attributes Forbes considers for ranking cities as a great place to retire are also many of the characteristics that squarely position Winston-Salem as a great place to conduct meetings and conventions, leisure getaways and corporate relocation," Richard Geiger, president of Visit Winston-Salem, said in the press release. "We're humbled to have made the list again and honored Forbes has recognized many of the qualities that make Winston-Salem a wonderful place to live, work and play, for people of all ages."
