North Carolina Rep. Steve Jarvis (R-Davidson) urged parents to check their eligibility for a one-time direct payment of $335 in relief funds to help with virtual schooling and childcare costs during the pandemic.
"I encourage all families impacted by COVID-19 to check their eligibility through the Department of Revenue," Jarvis said in a statement posted to his Facebook page. "It is my hope that these grants will provide the most vulnerable citizens in our state with the assistance they need."
According to guidelines on the Department of Revenue website, recipients must be a resident of North Carolina for all of 2019 to receive the Extra Credit Grant. At least one child under the age of 16 must be listed on their state tax return for that year. Families with at least one qualifying child on their state individual income tax return will automatically receive the funds.
North Carolinians who did not have to file a tax return can apply through the state Department of Revenue. The deadline to apply is Oct. 15.
