Davie County Public Library Receives Grant to Increase Services in the County

2

Davie County Public Library recently issued the following announcement on Aug. 5.

The Davie County Public Library recently received grant funding from the State Library of North Carolina as part of the NC Adapts Grant to provide extended access to the community. The SLNC awards support local library projects that target high-need communities to address digital inclusion, expand digital network access, purchase internet-accessible devices, provide related technical support in response to the coronavirus, and support community needs.

As part of the project funding, the Davie County Public Library received approximately $45,000 and will use the funding to focus on the underserved areas in the northern region of the county by providing remote lockers and WiFi access to the community to access the library’s resources and help close the digital divide in the county.

“The library is thankful for its partnership with the Town of Bermuda Run and the Davidson Davie Community College (DDCC) in Bermuda Run to house the lockers and provide access to the resources. The lockers will be used to store materials requested by the community, and to also offer a place where materials can be picked up conveniently,” said Derrick Wold, Director of the Davie County Public Library.  “The library is also looking to install a Wi-Fi hotspot for community members to access as well to help bridge the digital divide in Davie County. This project will also help with the assistance of further grant funding in the future to purchase laptops and hotspots to become available for community checkouts,” added Wold.

”We are very appreciative of Derrick Wold’s proactive initiative to provide extended access of library services to the Bermuda Run / East Davie area. The Town looks forward to partnering with DDCC and the Davie County Public Library to provide volunteers to staff the kiosk area. It’s a great testament to fully leveraging the resources of multiple agencies,” said Lee Rollins, Bermuda Run Town Manager.
