Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Offering Pediatric COVID-19 Vaccinations

Atrium

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center recently issued the following announcement.

Brenner Children’s and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist will begin scheduling appointments tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 4, for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11.

Beginning today, children will receive the vaccine at Downtown Health Plaza’s pediatric clinic, part of Brenner Children’s. Appointments will be available at a number of pediatric primary care clinics throughout the region with plans to expand to other locations in the coming weeks.

The health system is receiving 6,900 doses this week to be used in the first two waves of the state’s vaccine distribution plan.

“We know that many families have been looking forward to this day for a long time,” said Alisa L. Starbuck, D.N.P., president of Brenner Children’s Hospital and vice president of women’s and children’s health at Wake Forest Baptist. “We are so pleased to be the first to offer the vaccine to children, both locally and throughout our region, bringing us another step closer to ending this pandemic.”

People who wish to receive the vaccine do not need to be patients of Wake Forest Baptist or Brenner Children’s but appointments are required. Parents or guardians must accompany children to the appointment to provide written consent.

An updated list of locations, vaccine type and age availability can be found at www.wakehealth.edu/vaccine. Appointments are required and can be scheduled online through myWakeHealth or by calling 336-70-COVID (336-702-6843).

At this time, the Pfizer vaccine is the only COVID-19 vaccine authorized for those 5 years of age and older. The Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines can be given to people 18 years of age and older.

A full list of locations throughout North Carolina that are offering the vaccine to children can be found at www.myspot.nc.gov.
