Mocksville to Hold Arbor Day Celebration on April 29th

Arbor day 2 1

The Town of Mocksville will hold its annual Arbor Day Celebration on Friday, April 29th, at 10 a.m. at Rich Park – Shelter 2, 352 Park Drive, Mocksville.

Arbor Day—which literally translates to “tree” day from the Latin origin of the word arbor— celebrates the planting, upkeep, and preservation of trees. For centuries, communities spanning the globe have found various ways to honor nature and the environment.

You are invited to join us for a live tree planting and recognition of the Town for achieving its 29th year as part of Tree City USA!

Celebrating 29 Years of Tree City USA

Tree City USA is a national program that provides the framework for community forestry management for cities and towns across America. Communities achieve Tree City USA status by meeting four core standards of sound urban forestry management each year.

Maintaining the Town’s eligibility for the program takes time and dedication. “The Town of Mocksville appreciates the dedication and service of our Tree Board Members: Susan Hawkins, Carl Lambert, Judy Rosser, and Alex Thompson,” said Town Manager Ken Gamble. “Trees and community have never been more important.”

During the celebration, Mayor Will Marklin will read the Arbor Day proclamation, Ranger Michael Huffman from the North Carolina Forest Service will present the Tree City USA 2021 Award, and students from Mocksville Elementary School will assist Mocksville’s Parks and Grounds Department in planting five trees at Rich Park.
