Seniors are Busier than Ever!

21 0518 leadership some non obvious reasons you feel busier than ever 1021x640

Davie County Senior Services has been busier than ever, kicking off the summer season with so many great activities! A Bunco Party was held on May 20, and boy, it was fun! The folks had so much fun that they decided to meet again the first Friday of each month at 1 pm at the Senior Services Main Campus. This group is open to anyone and everyone that would like to attend. Following Bunco, on the 4th Monday of each month, Senior Services offers What’s Cooking: Foods, Fads, and Helpful Home Hacks. On May 30, storing food and keeping things fresh was the topic. The fad featured a bag sealer! How neat! Lots was learned and everyone was interactive and interested!

Kicking off June events, Senior Services held their annual Golden Anniversary Luncheon for all of the couples that have been married for 50 years or more. The room was filled with joy and laughter as they enjoyed a delicious catered meal and entertainment from Benita Finney and her son, Bradon. To conclude the event, each couple shared their names and how long they had been married. Several even shared tidbits of advice. It was a wonderful event!

On Friday, June 10, Senior Services got into the summer spirit by starting the morning off with Chair Volleyball! This was the most fun and part of the morning congregate program. So many laughs were had and it was a great time for everyone that participated. Beach music was played to add to the fun atmosphere! After lunch, the seniors strapped their seatbelts and took off on an Armchair Adventure across the Continental US and Pacific Ocean all the way to Hawaii! This event featured great facts about Hawaii, a video of the Hula, and delicious Hawaiian snacks such as Passion Fruit Bars, Hawaiian Chex Mix, fresh fruit, and a special Blue Hawaiian Mocktail in a take-home Tiki cup. To conclude the event, each person participated in the Hawaiian tradition of making a lei. It was so much fun to relax and enjoy the ride! Next time, the armchairs will be headed to New York!

On Wednesday, June 15, Senior Services had a great afternoon with the 2nd installment of the Basket Weaving Classes! In this class, instructor, Cheryl Tilley, taught the eager students how to make a Picket Fence Basket. The baskets were gorgeous and easy to make! Basket Weaving is an activity in SilverArts, and Senior Services would love to see every participant in the class join in for the awesome fun SilverArts competition for 2023!
