The Carolina University Women's Basketball team is gearing up for the 2024-2025 season, beginning with an away game against Alice Lloyd College this weekend. Under the leadership of Head Coach Kimiere Hawkins, now in her second term, the Bruins are returning after a notable previous season.

Last year, the Bruins ended with a 16-9 record and advanced to the national championship but were defeated by Grace College. Reflecting on the upcoming season, Coach Hawkins shared her enthusiasm: "We're looking forward to our first game back to set the tone for the season and to continue the success we started last year."

In preparation for this season, emphasis was placed on mental readiness due to a challenging travel schedule. Coach Hawkins remarked on its importance: "It's essential to ensure our mental game is top-tier since basketball is such a mental sport."

Key players include Bianca Gonzalez, serving as team captain in her final year, and graduate student Nadia McDowell-Jackson. Both bring crucial leadership and experience. Additionally, freshman Morgan Pinnix stands out as a quick learner with potential impact on offense.

The coaching staff sees new additions with Assistant Coach Shakeia Salter and Graduate Assistant Jazeem Betha joining. Coach Hawkins has focused on assembling a team marked by "experience and leadership," stressing staff qualities like "a willingness to learn and who will lead by example."
