FOIA Request to Davidson County Election Department Regarding Information on Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at South Winston Salem News have submitted a request under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1. The request was sent to the Davidson County Election Department in North Carolina, seeking information about the candidates running for the upcoming spring election.
Our request specifically asked for a list of all candidates that are running in this election. We requested details such as the candidate's first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation of each candidate.
In addition to these details, we also sought contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
We believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information as a media organization, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
